Technology: Transmission line

This type of bass loading has always had a following: T’lines can produce bass of exceptional quality and extension. Over a number of years we have developed a T’line unlike any other: A straight un-tapered line, with the driver mounted at one end. There is no cavity behind the driver (intended for low-pass filtering or additional acoustic loading). There are also no folds or constrictions in the line, avoiding reflections and standing waves. The line is defined by absorptive, densely lagged walls. Termination is via an annular vent between the cabinet and the plinth. The T’line and vent’s acoustic response is very smooth and free of resonances. The line is tuned to 28Hz. Bass is deep and powerful. It is also fast, even, free of turbulence noises or the mid-bass emphasis (70-120Hz) often found in reflex systems.

Because the driver has such a long throw linear suspension and is loaded by a wide-band transmission line, large damping rings are positioned at the inner and outer limits of the driver’s travel. These couple to the voice coil as it approaches, absorbing energy and acting as electro-magnetic brakes. This helps to prevent coil bottoming and increases low frequency power handling.
